D.R. & Isla Miller
The Foundation was established in 1993 by DR & Isla Miller to help preserve the endangered Asian elephant species. According to current statistics there are between 35,000 and 45,000 Asian elephants on earth. As of 2000, there were only 285 captive elephants in North America and only 35 if these are breeders.
The Miller family’s elephant herd is one of the largest in the United States. Their herd consists of 11 Asian elephants in all, with 8 females and 3 males. They range in age from Dori Marie, the youngest baby, who was born in July 2015 to the matriarch of the herd Susie, who is 63.
